Easter Sunrise Academy began in the fall of 1993.  It was founded at first on a cooperative
home-schooling basis, with three mothers teaching in their homes two days a week.  We had
an enrollment of seven students, from ages 4 to 14.  The next year, we gained three new
students, but continued teaching in our homes.  The third year, the school grew to fifteen
students, with twelve of them meeting in one home sometimes.  We knew that if we continued
to grow, we could not continue to teach in our homes.
In May of 1996, we were given a trailer that had been totaled in a flood.  It was in sad
condition, but we remodeled it during the summer, and were able to start school in it that fall,
with an enrollment of seventeen.
We had begun teaching students whose mothers did not help with the instruction, so we felt it
was time to revise the school policy and set up a more formal private school.
The trailer was roomy enough for a couple of years, but when our enrollment expanded to
twenty-six in the school year 1997-98, we began to think about other options.  We decided to
build a large building of metal panels, and moved grades 7-12 into it in the fall of 1999.   Since
then, our enrollment has swelled to as many as forty-two at one time, with students coming
from as much as forty-five miles away.  We have also expanded the elementary by adding on
another trailer.
In May of 1999, we held our first formal graduation.  (Two previous students had graduated,
but without any fanfare.)  We have held several high-school graduations by now, and some
students have gone on to college.  We give talent shows every other year, and do a program
at the Shady Oaks nursing home each year.
Although we operate the school according to our religious beliefs, we do welcome students of
different beliefs.  We have taught handicapped children to the best of our ability, and did for
several years include a family of African and Himalayan descent.  Most of the families who
send their children here are of low income.  We enjoy our rural setting and endeavor to learn
and grow as Jesus did, "in favor with God and man."
